Meet Bernie Sokal

About Bernie

I founded MoneyCare Financial, LLC after a successful 38-year career working for two leading financial institutions. I wanted to utilize my financial expertise and enter a profession that truly helps people - Daily Money Management.

Prior to becoming a Daily Money Manager, I experienced first-hand how much this means to people and the satisfaction I felt through my handling of the monetary affairs of my 98-year old father-in-law, who lives in an assisted living facility in New Jersey. I also coordinated the move of my 90-year old parents from New York City, where they lived in the same co-op apartment for 55 years, to Florida. This involved not only helping to sell their co-op and purchase a new condo, but also arranging their physical move, and the set-up of their banking & utilities. In doing this, I discovered and remediated significant overcharging from some of their service providers.

I have an MBA degree from the Columbia Business School in Finance and Money & Financial Markets, and a BA degree from the University of Buffalo. I am also a proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School, in New York City.

I attended the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies, where I took classes in their Certificate in Financial Planning Program in Insurance, Investments, Income Tax Planning, Retirement Planning, and Estate Planning.

I also earned a Certificate in Professional Fiduciary Management for Trustees from California State University, Fullerton.

After graduation, I joined Citigroup where I was a Senior Vice President. I was there for over 30 years in various Finance, Expense Management, and Risk Management roles in brokerage operations, legal, government affairs, systems & technology, corporate lending, credit cards, and travelers checks business units. As Director of Expense Management for the Consumer Group, the businesses that I supported were able to reduce expense by $436 Million.

I then joined JPMorgan Chase as an Executive Director in their Global Legal business unit. As Senior Planning and Analysis Director, I oversaw an internal budget of approximately $500 million and an annual outside counsel spend of approximately $1.1 Billion.

I have resided for over 30 years in Marlboro, New Jersey with my wife of 40 years, who is a highly successful local real estate agent. I have two wonderful adult sons who currently reside in New York City.

Civic duties are very important to me. I have coached both soccer and Little League teams, and was a founder and Treasurer for the Marlboro Diamond Club. I am most proud of my initiative in 2012 to re-name 7 streets in Marlboro, NJ to honor the township residents who were lost in the terrorist attacks on 9/11 including my next door neighbor of 18 years. It was a tremendously touching experience traveling to each street for the individual dedication ceremonies with family members of the lost residents along with the Mayor and Marlboro Township officials.

I am a member of the American Association of Daily Money Managers, Caring Connections of New Jersey, Estate and Financial Planning Council of Central New Jersey, and the Seniors Blue Book Networking Group. I am also on the Board of Trustees for Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County.
